I was talking to my friend Roy tonight – well, talking through Facebook. He was talking about the ups and downs of life. I wasn’t quite sure where he was coming from exactly, but knowing him I responded to his post.
He was talking about the ups and downs of life and I responded to his post-telling him that the ups and downs are like a roller coaster. And you can have one of two perspectives on a roller coaster. The first is to be scared and just scream your head off – you know – holding on the bar and totally not enjoying it. The second is to just put your hands up and go with it. The person that is scared will experience the same ups and downs of the roller coaster like the one that’s completely enjoying it. The difference is in the approach of the rider.
The roller coaster can’t do anything to you. For one thing, it’s values neutral. It’s just an object. It’s not even alive. The ride is the same whether there’s people on it or not. The ride is the same whether you’re enjoying it or not. You might as well enjoy it. I guess some people could enjoy it – scared out of their minds – but it is possible to enjoy.
