I am learning what that word means. I love reading about innovation, but I’d rather have my departments become innovative. It takes a bunch of creativity and a little bit of a rebellious spirit. It takes a certain stubbornness to not listen to the naysayers or the negative attitudes of the people around you. It takes a tremendous amount of maturity and security to handle all of that. It also takes research to know what’s out there. I can’t claim to be innovative if 5 other institutions are doing the same thing. That’s just duplication. I want to be about innovation.
