Inner and Outer

Fundamental in identity is this idea that there is an inner aspect of self (ideal self) and an outer aspect of self (functional self). I think I’ve blogged about this before. Both are necessary. The outer self is a self-constructed self. This is the self that interacts within relationships and this also has impact on the inner aspect of self. The inner self though is the self that acts upon the outer self. The outer self does not act upon the inner self, but it affects it. There is this tension that needs to be maintained in that the unique and individual aspects of the inner self must also have a self-constructed constantly changing outer self.
