I went to a show last night at the House of Blues. I saw the Reverand Horton Heat play. You can google him or check him out on wikipedia. It was one of the most interesting shows that I’ve ever seen. I went with a friedn of mine who has seen him many times. This was the first time that I saw him perform, and I stood out like a fish out of water. I just stood there all night. I only shifted my weight in order to be comfortable. I sat through over 2 hours of music and none of it made me move. To tell you the truth, I didn’t know how to move. I couldn’t move to it at all, but many others were.
You see, the Rev’s music would fall into this interesting niche of music called psychobilly (google it). It was like rock, country, metal, bluegrass, swing, big band, and jazz all at the same time. There were so many greasers – young ones and old ones. It was insane. All generations were there. These much older people rockin out in a rockabilly way.
At one point in the night, there were about hundred people moshing in the middle of the floor. They were slamming into one another and just moshing their head off – at the same time off to the side, there were other people swing dancing – To The Same Song. Moshing and Swing dancing at the same time. I had never seen that before. It was an interesting concoction of Identities.
Have you ever seen anything like that? An Identity Concoction?
