My brother is home from Afghanistan. I am so proud of that kid. We are all so relieved that he has come home and that he came home safely. After a week in Kuwait, he came home about a week ago. It’s been great to talk to him and hear about the past 6 months in Afghanistan. He’s got alot to do now though – find an apartment, get his car all registered, pretty much start his life up again. I can’t imagine taking a break from my life to go and work at a hospital in the middle of no where Afghanistan for months.
He had tons of stories. We talked for a long time. Of all the lessons that he’s learned and shared with me so far, the one thing that stands out is how he wants to simplify his life. After seeing all the wounded – he wants to simplify his life. After all of the surgeries and the amputations that they needed to do – he wants to simplify his life. After taking care of all of the soldiers that have given their life for our freedom – he wants to simplify his life. I guess there’s something about the atrocities of war and the pain of the wounded that really causes you to ask some tough questions.
Let’s keep praying for all of our brothers and sisters out there fighting for us. No matter what side of the war you debate from, people are fighting and giving their lives for us.
