Google Is Your Pre-Interview

Published by

Google is now your pre-interview. I interviewed someone this week. I google’d someone him. I learned a little about him:

Where he got his doctorate.
That the foundation he works for really exists and that the opportunities are real.
Where he used to work.
What he looks like.
That his online presence is consistent.

There are tons of ways and profiles that will allow you to claim you online presence. No one will represent you better than you. If someone wants to hire you, give you their business, or give you a donation, you want to be found. Let me know if you need help.

Solid point. It is also a little scary. It also means that people have to unfortunately remain aware of anywhere they may have ever opened an account. No one wants their pre-interview image to be that of a drunken collegian ten years ago, etc.

Thanks for the comment. You are so right. There’s a lot of pre-interviewing that happens. I do it. Who knows what’s out there? Even if you weren’t drunk but you happened to be in a picture where everyone else is – you’re stuck.
Well, one thing we can do is to write and have our stuff out there so that we are represented well. We can certainly stay on top of that so that those interviewing us will find other things – good things about us.
