My facebook status this morning was:

im glad that worship isnt dependent on music or vocals.

My good friend Bub Kuns posted this beautiful response to it.

Perhaps if we corrected our misleading language it would go a long way to repairing God’s definition and instructions of and for worship. Music Director, for instance, should replace Worship Leader. I heard a lady the other day, a pastor’s wife, apologize to a couple of people walking into an assembly because the music director/singer was ill. Her… See More statement was, “I’m sorry, so and so is sick, so we won’t be having worship this morning.” Wow! It is often the leaders in local assemblies who by sheer use of certain incorrect terminology inadvertently end up redefining words and thereby confusing people. We must be diligent in reading scripture and careful with our words. I wouldn’t know what to do if I believed I was dependent on a person to “lead” me in worship. I need someone to lead me in song – totally different things. Maybe song leader is a good title or no title or no reference to song and worship.
