When you do a search for identity – most of the time your search results will yield technologist or identity theft analysts. Identity and online identity has to do with access or activation (of websites and profiles).
You might also find hits about brand identity and developing your own personal brand. Be it Pepsi or your personal blog, brand identity is this idea of identity + business.
But the foundation of all of these things whether it has to do with trust or character of the technologist’s approach or the selling and marketing of the business approach to identity has to do with ego identity, personal identity, or psychological identity.
Think about it – the technologist main focus is the fidelity of your identity – that you are who you say you are. They worry is the lying about or stealing of identity.
The business focuses on selling. They’re worry is that their product or service doesn’t attract the attention of buyers and consumers.
Think about brands – Oprah, Polo-Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Shaq – just keep going down the list. Each one of these brand identities finds its foundation in a person – an a specific person’s identity. Listen to the news on technology, it is difficult to talk about Apple without talking about the personality of Steve Jobs. Apple is the way that it is because of one man’s identity.
The principles of developing brand identity finds its foundation in ego and personal identity development.
