New Identity

I was listening to a preacher talk about our new identity in Christ. We have an identity in Christ that we have not realized yet. There are things available to us as a new man – that are amazing things, but if we do not know that these are things available to us – we cannot ever access these things. There are already things that are true about who we are – but we have not yet claimed them as ours because we do not know these things yet. Actually, let me rephrase that, there are things about myself that are true – because Christ has said that they are true that I am learning and realizing. I am crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that lives, but Christ that lives in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. But sometimes, I live and I don’t let Christ live in me. It is my New Identity though that is me.

Very nice Lem, Christ has given you a new identity even if you don’t always realize who you are. I love asking people who they are, and it is rare indeed to hear someone state their identity as Jesus 🙂 do you believe those who’s new identity is in Jesus also partake in the hypostatic union, we are still 100% human but we are also partakers of the divine nature 2 Peter 1: I believe verse 4. We are God men and God women, more human than human, a new species a new race where God is our Father and Jesus is our elder brother and we are all brothers and sisters in him. Heresy or reality?

I haven’t thought about the hypostatic union in years – since seminary. Throughout church history, they’ve tried to figure out what it all means. I’m not sure I ever remember the hypostatic union ever being applied to anyone else but Christ. I’d have to brush up on that.
I think when I talk about a new identity – I am talking about not so much a new identity, but a realization of who I truly am. I have an identity and I am continuing to realize my true identity = that’s my new identity.
