There was a time when I would be disciplined by my parents. I would be disciplined by my aunts. I would be disciplined by grandma. I would be disciplined by my neighbors. In fact, I honored and respected them enough so that when they disciplined me, I did not question it. I received it.

I love the discipline found in community. I love the idea of the jurisdiction of the neighborhood. How do I build that here? I think it can happen if we build it in the context of love – honor – respect. If we mandate the jurisdiction of the neighborhood with rules, it will not be as authoritative as if we build it in light of community.
