I came across a cool blog – in fact, it is called MetaCool –http://metacool.typepad.com/metacool/innovation/.
The title of the post was – instead of managing, try cultivating. It was a great post. Diego Rodriguez used the metaphor of cultivating a garden – how one can cultivate innovation instead of managing. The four defining behaviors of cultivators of innovation include:
1. Being at the bottom of things
2. Trusting what is there
3. Embracing the ecosystem
4. Taking a bird’s eye view
Check out the post on his blog, but it challenges traditional management of being on top of things. Being at the bottom of things and in the dirt helps one to cultivate creativity and innovation – where you smell like the dirt, but you are bright as roses.
