As I read about leadership – I’m seeing that the subtext really is about change or making a difference. It takes movement or leadership to make some of these changes happen. Let’s find a need and meet it.
I don’t always read the subtext. I don’t know if you do, but every writer writes text – but something triggered it. There’s always a subtext and it isn’t always conscious – sometimes it’s sub-conscious.
The subtext of a few of the things that I’m reading is that has been fascinating for me is that there is an emotional dimension to leadership development – almost always tied into the Vision. If someone can communicate and give vision to where they need to go or what needs to be changed or what needs can be met – then they can be seen as a leader. But it’s one thing to be seen as a leader and it’s another thing to be a leader. There are tons of books that talk about both – how to be seen as a leader and then how to lead.
Lately, the subtext of what I’ve been reading is that there is an organic and grassroots dimension to leadership. If you can tap into the emotion of the vision – then you can captivate people, but it’s not enough to just captivate people. You have to cultivate and continue to cultivate the emotion of the vision. Maybe that’s what the next post should be – the emotion of the vision.
When leadership is not about me and about people – then I am leading.
