Thinking about what to write

Published by

on

I was trying to think about what I should write about. In fact, I have been thinking about it for 2 days. I actually have something to write about, but I wanted to write about thinking about writing. I don’t “need” something to write about. I don’t need to write anything super exciting or even insightful. As I think about it, I just need to get into the practice and exercise of writing – because when I do have something exciting or insightful to say – which for me, this is starting to become so – I’ll be ready to write.
The more I think about it, the fact that I don’t know what to write about or have been thinking about writing something reveals something about me. I’ll let you figure out what those things might be, and the beauty of it is you won’t be wrong. You’re ideas about why I can’t write or why I’m thinking so much about what to write tells you something about me. I would love for you to tell me what your insights are. Actually, share whatever you want.
Thanks for reading. Please share this post about not knowing what to write with those that might appreciate it or possibly make fun of me.

Have a great day.

you have a desire for people to know something about you, but you are not sure yet what you are comfortable letting them know

Good comment. This blogging thing is new to me. About a month ago, I decided to make my blog public and just started posting – allowing others to see.
Great insight Nathan. What tips do you have for someone that isn’t in publishing or isn’t a writer.
I was talking one of my professors on my dissertation committee, and he was telling me to just free write. Just write. I’ve been able to do it twice. Thanks for the input Nathan. I’ll check out your blog as well.

free writing is a good place to start. You can use the common technique a lot of people use to cure writer’s block, and that is to write for 5 – 20 minutes without stopping to edit or question what is being jotted down on the page. The ideas locked inside will find their way out. It is a good way to work on a bit of writing discipline as well.

One of the cool things about blogging is that what may seem mundane and uninteresting to you may be a source of encouragement to someone else. We get bored with our own everyday lives and thoughts, but that is because we are exposed to them 24-7. Others will be interested in what you have to say.
