Quitting an Identity

You can’t just quit an identity – especially one that you’ve spent years and years developing.  When you spend so much time doing something, developing a skill, learning a craft – creating and sculpting an identity – you become that person.  You take on that identity.  You can’t just quit.  You can’t just stop being what you spent years doing and becoming.

It’s possible to stop doing the action associated with the identity, but you can’t just stop being one thing totally and completely.  You can slowly take on another identity, but you can’t just quit being who you’ve been for so long.

Take on another identity, but don’t think that you can quit an identity – just like that.
