Teaching Students How to Dance

Recently, I heard a talk about how education kills creativity. We are involved in wrong educating. We teach – according to the speaker – from the waist up. Really, we teach from the neck up and typically only to the one side. We teach math everyday, but we don’t teach dance everyday.

He also suggests that we all start as artists and as creatives and we grow out of it, or more specifically, we are educated out of it. The real trick is to stay in it – to develop the art and creativity. I’m not say that math isn’t important. I’m saying that dance, painting, poetry, acting and music is just as important.

To my students – I will teach you how to dance and not break our no dancing rules.
