It’s not a drink, and this idea has nothing to do with a beverage.  It has everything to do though with connecting with another.  It’s a Henri Nouwen idea – from his book Can You Drink This Cup?  The book focuses on the intimacy that Jesus has with God and that Jesus wants his people to enter into.

As Nouwen builds his case (and I haven’t read the book in over 10 years), he talks about the intimacy of of the cup.  He talks about the connection that we can have over a drink.  It could have been called the intimacy of the table.  The relational connection is the focus – but he suggests that the cup serves as an impetus for intimacy.
