I don’t always get the best response when I say that. Some of you – you are your parents. Others of you are nothing like your parents. It’s such a polarizing thing. Some of you are and some of you aren’t. Some of you are glad that you are and some are glad that they’re not – but they might still be like their parents.
So you may not completely be your parents, but even if you haven’t lived with them ever, you still carry on some very foundational aspects of mom and dad. The Family Systems “stuff” affect you even though you’re not around.
It’s not a bad thing to be like your parents – whether you want to be like them or not. It is a bad thing to not recognize the possibility of it. To ignore it means to ignore a fundamental aspect of yourself. To become more yourself is to acknowledge this about you.
