The Price of Cool

About a month ago, I wrote a post about the psychology of the coolest which described the innovators and early adoptors.  It was a follow up to the psychology of cool post from before.

It costs to be cool.  It costs to be an early adopter.  The price of cool is “standing in line.”  Last week, it was iPhone 4.  I saw people standing in line in the heat for over 8 hours – and they didn’t get a phone – all in the hopes of being one of the first – of being an early adopter.

Tonight at the movies, it was Eclipse – there was a long, long line.  We went to a 4:00 pm movie.   6 hours later, I’m writing about it, and they still have to wait 2 more hours.

If you want to be an early adopter and have things first – that will make you cool.  But you have to stand in line.  That’s the cost.
