I watched a speech that Jimmy Carter gave. One line stood out to me, and keep in mind that he was describing life when he was president.

He said that we define human identity, not by what we do, but what we own. That was decades ago, but is it even more true today? How do we define ourselves today? Not by what you do or what you own, but by what online profile you create – a screen name – an avatar – a handle.
