The Birth of Sushi

Okay, so I don’t know anything about it, but as I was eating it tonight, I had a startling thought – who in the world figured out what fish was good to eat raw?

Think about all the bad fish that someone had to eat.  Think about all the poisonous fish or all the fish that might have tasted good but made you really sick.  They eat even crazier stuff in Japan that we’ll never get to try.

But someone, somewhere, back in the day had a brilliant idea.  Don’t get me wrong – I’m great that someone tried it, but can you imagine the idea popping into someone’s head – the first time?  I’m going to eat this fish raw.  It was the birth of sushi.

In a similar light – who was the first to decide that this white egg that some bird “pooped” should be cracked open and fried?
