If I Don’t Like it, I Won’t Talk About It

I heard this line yesterday.  I like the idea although there are consequences to it – consequences that sometimes you can’t control.

We will give attention to the things that we like.  Even if I speak against it, I am giving it attention so I am communicating that I like it or at least it’s a little important.  It’s like there’s 2 levels of like.  I may not like something, but the fact that I give it some attention communicates that I like it enough to give it some attention.

We communicate on multiple levels – what we consciously intend and what we don’t mean to communicate.  The unintentional communication is typically what gets us in trouble and many times the cause of miscommunication.  Just a thought.
