I have recently started playing Words with Friends. It’s great for unproductivity. I have too many games going.
Well, I had the app open, and I somehow “created” a game with a Random Opponent. I didn’t necessarily want to resign the game. It started so then I played the game. I beat Random Opponent by one point.
But the thing that stood out to me was we played almost the whole game before I decided to at least introduce myself and say hi. I shared my name. I said hi. They said hi back, but never gave me their name or any other information. Maybe I should have let them win.
We are in a time where Random Opponent is a more normal thing. You can chat with random people. Play against random people. Check in with random people. Random is where we’re at. The game lasted almost 24 hours. We shared moments in the 24 hours that we played, but I have no idea who this person is.
We are in a time where not knowing doesn’t matter. I think it creates within us a desire to be known. What do you think?
