Have you ever seen someone fall in love?  I mean have you ever experienced someone really fall in love?  I have experienced a version of it that I have never experienced before – falling in love like I have never seen in my life.  Right before my eyes – it happened, and it was the most beautiful thing that I’ve seen in a very long time.

The school year has started, and a new school year brings many new students.  With new students starts new friendships, and with new friendships start young and new romances – that kind that these students have never experienced before.  I mean, they are hugging in that giddy and cute way.  It didn’t take very long for some of them to happen, and I wonder what the trigger was.  This is not the falling in love that I have never experienced before.  I see this kind of new love happen every year – at the beginning of the year.  There will be lots of boyfriends and girlfriends at home that will get their heart broken.

The one that I want to tell you about is about a love of a father to his brand new daughter.  I have a new niece as of this past Friday – 09.04.09.  Her name is Hazel Grace Bright.  I watched her daddy held her in his arms – only a few hours old.  I watched his face and his smile.  I didn’t see anything happen in the air or around him, but I could sense and see in his face that he was falling madly in love with his little girl.  Luke was being smitten by his daughter.  With every second that passed, he fell in love with his baby girl.

I talked to him about it yesterday.  He said that he couldn’t explain it, but that something had overcome him and taken over.  The love that he had for his girl was thick in the room.  There were many people in the room, but for Luke, Hazel had every single ounce of his attention.

I have never seen a father fall in love with his little girl.  It is about one of the most beautiful things that I’ve ever seen.  I think the only thing that could top that is when I get to fall in love with my little girl – which won’t be for a long time.
