I don’t know if you’ve seen this lately, but the past few books that I’ve bought lately have been written by geeks. The blogs and books have been written by the geeky kids and gamers of the past few decades. I mean, I bought a book tonight for 25 bucks and a geek wrote it.
They are leading the way in the whole social networking and media realm. They are writing the books – alot of them actually – on everything from leadership to marketing; from social media to emerging technologies (I never really understood the rules for writing “to” statements like that. It’s like I just made up this continuum that really doesn’t exist).
One of the things that I really like about the geek writing is that it is actionable and executable. They don’t really spend much time waxing intellectual and theoretical about what ever it is they’re talking about. They provide research. They give very good information. It is really good data, but they also spend some time providing actionable steps. Theoreticians aren’t always that good giving practical and pragmatic action steps – ergo theoreticians. I think that they would be the nerds. Geeks are the new Nerds.
Are you a Geek or a Nerd?
