I can’t believe that I haven’t written about this yet. A key to identity formation is that everything forms. Everything has the potential to construct and shape your identity. Every book that you read, tv show that you watch, song you hear or sing, relationship that you’re in and experience of all of it – it all forms your sense of identity and self.
It comes from 2 places. You are able to construct your identity, build around a narrative or idea that provides the scaffolding for your relationships and experiences. It is this internal process of constructing your identity, but then there is also this external shaping. This happens when you experience people, places or things that challenge your constructed identity – that you either consciously or subconsciously change to match. The influence exerted on to you can change you.
No matter how you look at it, everything forms. Whether it’s something that happens consciously and internally or if it’s a conditioned, external influence. And there are so many variables in between.
You are what you eat……….and say – and watch – and write – and consume – and do – and are…….
