One Hour for Memory

It takes about one hour for the brain to process information.

Years ago, a study was done where a group memorized a list and the next day was able to recall the list.  Another group had to memorize a list, then another right after that.  When asked to recall the information the next day, they had difficulty doing so.  Another group still memorized the list and an hour later memorized another list.  The next day they were able to recall both lists.

Your brain/mind is amazing and resilient.  It can handle much information, but if you overload the short term memory, some of those ideas won’t make it into the long term memory – an overtaxed attentional memory will not be able to deeply process ideas into long term memory.

So – learn something, but don’t cram.  Give it an hour.  It’ll last longer.
