Have you heard of it? I just heard about it recently. It’s described as reverse anorexia. It is an eating disorder. Instead of wanting to get smaller and thinner, people with this disease try and get bigger.
It’s basically the same disease as anorexia except for the fact that there is an entire industry dedicated to bigorexia. You can watch it tv and there are magazines devoted to it. It seems more acceptable because of the industry that supports it, but it’s the same basic self need as someone suffering from anorexia.
The need to become bigger is a basic identity need. People with bigorexia are dealing with the same basic identity issues as someone with anorexia – except for it is acceptable. It’s an acceptable form of identity crisis.
I need to study it more. Do you know anything about it?
