Brett Favre and Identity

Around last year, I wrote about Brett Favre as a Viking – here’s the post.  If you look at the news this week about Favre, it has to do with whether he should retire or he might play again if his ankle is healthy.  There are many articles that make more fun of him than give facts.  He’s flip-flopping – the news says.

Brett Favre can’t decide to retire because that would mean quitting an identity.  It’s not that easy to quit an identity.  You can stop playing, but it’s much harder to quit being Brett Favre the quarterback.  Let him flip flop.  Let him be made fun of.  It’s not easy to quit.
