The Language that Connects Community

Yesterday, I attended TEDxAFC (I’m still processing my experience and I’ll probably blog about it soon).

One of the over arching themes of the event had to do with how we can build community.  There was this theme of how language connects us in community, but what stood out to me was this idea that there are multiple languages and vocabulary that you can use to connect people in community.  One speaker talked about the language of San Diego, and others talked about music, graffiti, and math as language to connect people.

I like the idea that no matter what you do, you need to learn the language of what it is that you’re doing.  It means sometimes that you don’t talk and use the language that connects to people’s heart and whether it’s coffee, food, or film – figure out the language that connects people in community.
