I was reading in Steven Pressfield’s book Do the Work. He has a quick line that caught my attention. The line is:
The last thing we want is to remain as we are. If you’re reading this book, it’s because you sense inside you a second self, an unlived you……..an unmanifested you, this unborn self, this future being.
Any line that talks about self or you or identity stands out to me. I quite like this idea of the Second Self. Actually, I like the idea of an unrealized you; a future self that you can someday be. When identity is fully formed and one has developed, they will hit completeness and maturity.
He goes on to talk about the enemy of that future, unrealized self, but you’re going to have to buy the book to read about that.
Sherry Turkle has a book called the Second Self, but that’s a different blog post.
