Feeling Pretty

What are your thoughts about it?  Have you ever thought about what it means to “Feel Pretty”?  I don’t know that I’ve ever thought about it until today – mainly because I don’t even know what it means to “Feel Pretty.”

I had a conversation with a friend about that today, and she mentioned that feeling pretty had to do with getting a pedicure, a haircut, and possibly new shoes – which funny enough are all things that make you look pretty.  She had said that feeling pretty had to do with – looking pretty.

There’s even a song about, but I am not sure that it sheds any light on what it means to “Feel Pretty.”

Then I finally came across an article that explained that “feeling pretty” had to do with a chemical or hormonal balance in the body.  Hormones influence behavior. Of course, the article also mentioned something about the length of a man’s fingers determining how much money they made.  I don’t know how that fits this post at all, but then again, what does it really mean to “Feel Pretty.”

    1. I agree with JoAnn–it can be enhanced, but it comes from within. This reminds me of a Rob Bell quote from the book Sex God, “Sexy is when it feels good to be in your own skin. Your own body feels right, it feels comfortable. Sexy is when you love being you” (Rob Bell, Sex God, 46). Feeling pretty could almost be equated with feeling confident, in my opinion.

  1. I think ideally, “feeling pretty” should be something that “comes from within,” as JoAnn and Jennifer suggest. Unfortunately I think that a lot of people try to feel pretty by making themselves look pretty. One doesn’t have to look far to find examples of the American obsession with outward beauty. The message implied in the magazines, movies, music, celebrity photos, etc…is that looking pretty will make you feel good about yourself aka “feeling pretty.” But I agree with JoAnn and Jennifer that truly “feeling pretty” can only come from within.

  2. I agree with your friend! 🙂 To me, feeling pretty is when I get all that done and feel glam! Sorry it took me so long to post. I just saw your message on Twiter! =)
