The Physiology of Identity Formation

I was thinking about what the impact might be on identity formation.  I am not sure if anyone has studied the physiology of identity formation.

I have been reading and studying the neuroplasticity of the brain – reconnections that the brain makes.  There is a physiology of identity formation.  I have read mainly in psychology or behavioral science – but there has to be something physical about identity formation.  It was stand to reason that someone might have been so damaged physiologically that they cannot “physically” progress in identity formation.  It’s easy to explain things from a psychological perspective, but there might be some physical reconnections that might hinder identity formation.

What do you think?  Or are you physiologically able to?
