I watched a pre-game speech from a NFL coach. I can’t remember who the coach was, but I think it was Wade Phillips when HBO followed the Cowboys in the pre-season.
In his speech, he told his team that all the mistakes on the field that night was his, and that freed up his team to play without the worry of mistakes.
Of course, he’s not the coach today, but I still like the lesson. Leaders need to take responsibility for the mistakes of all that they lead. It’s easy for a leader to pass the blame to someone that works for them, but it all rises and falls on leadership.
For my other Leadership Lessons.
