Caricature:
a. A representation, especially pictorial or literary, in which the subject’s distinctive features or peculiarities are deliberately exaggerated to produce a comic or grotesque effect.
b. The art of creating such representations.
2. A grotesque imitation or misrepresentation
Typically, when you see a caricature, there are some features that are exaggerated – a bigger nose, a flatter forehead, or spikey hair. It still ends up looking like the person, but with exaggerated features.
An identity caricature is the same except for it focuses on identity features. Those could be physical features, but it could also be non-physical aspects and characteristics. It could deal with someone’s insecurity or their smell. It might refer to their sense of direction or their annoying sense of humor. Whatever the case, it is possible to caricature identity features and exaggerate aspects of someone. It’s really noticeable on Facebook or Twitter profiles – where features and characteristics are exaggerated to get a desired effect. Try it out.
