A Post Ethnic Identity

I gave a lecture this week on a Post-ethnic Identity. In the US, we have all sorts of ethnicities that claim to be American. What does that even mean?

We can maintain our ethnic cultures as long as there is infrastructure to do so, and although we probably will never lose it, we are finding other ways to gather around other identities.

We are starting to gather around affiliations and interests. We can find our identities in pretty much anything. Whether you find your identity in your ethnicity and/or your hobby, just add “American” to the end of it and you should be good.

Asian American

African American

Geek American

Football American

What do you think?
