One Trip – Two Journeys

I’m leaving today for Turkey and Israel.  I’m very excited about the trip.  It will be a quick one.  We’ll be back in a week.  I feel like there’s so much to do but I will be leaving in less than an hour.  Actually, I’ve gotten a lot done, but it’s just that anxious feeling before flying – especially a 14 hour trip.  The iPad won’t last that long.

I say that there’s 2 journeys because there will be a physical journey.  I was told that we would be hiking 10 miles a day, and that it’ll be pretty intense.  It will be nice to see the sites and learn so much about the geography and landscape of the Bible.

The other journey will be a personal one – an inward one.  I am planning on taking a bunch of video for an intercultural communication course that I’ll be teaching next semester.  It will be interesting to see how I react to things.  I am interested in how uncomfortable I might feel or how “weird” things might seem to me.

I am praying that it might also be a spiritual journey.  I hope to interact with God in exciting new ways – will they be any different than my experience with Him here?  I really don’t know.  I am sure excited to find out.

I like that R. Mulholland describes a journey as an adventure into the unknown.  I’m looking forward to my one trip and two journeys.
