A Rooted Identity

No matter who you are or where you come from, you need to root your identity in something or someone. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. Who you are needs to be rooted in something.

You might root your identity in your favorite team.
You might root your identity in your family name – although many of my friends aren’t able to do that these days.
You might root your identity in a brand of shoe – or brand of shirt – or some other brand of something,
You might root your identity in a mountain range.
You might root your identity in where you are from – although again – I’m meeting people that are having a hard time doing so. Where did you grow up is not an easy question for some.
You might root it in the kind of phone you have. You know who you are.
You might root your identity in the sport that you played in high school or the team you were with 20 years ago – living off of old glory.
You might root your identity in your current position or job.

We all need to root our identity in something. What do you root your identity in? Jesus? Job? Jellyfishes?
